What I Want For Christmas

Since Advent starts this Sunday, I have been thinking about what I want for Christmas and I have come up with a few things. Here they are:

1. A Christmas letter from someone who’s children are average.
2. To be able to find the scissors and tape when I need them.
3. That when I order online, that they would tell me if they are out of stock before I type in all the address and payment information.
4. An express checkout line that actually is express.
5. To spend more time shopping and less time looking for a parking place.
6. To see a lot less hype and a lot more love.
7. To see Santa less and Christ more.
8. To spend more time enjoying my friends and family.
9. To spend more time thinking about how much God loves me and that He sent His Son so I would know it.
10. That each of you would have a very holy and blessed Christmas season.

I hope I get what I want for Christmas.

PRECIOUS GIFT

One king holds the precious gold.

Another holds the myrrh.

One king holds the frankincense

While Mary holds the Word.

One king kneels to worship Him

Another bows in prayer

One king stares in disbelief

At the baby lying there.

Mary sits so quietly

Amazed that God would send

Such a precious gift to her

To save the souls of men.

Unused Gifts

giftcards

According to the Consumer Reports National Research Center, one out of every five gift-card recipients never used their cards last year. I’m sure that retailers love this as the cards represent about $972 million in unredeemed gifts.
The top reasons for not using gift cards include:
Haven’t had time: 50 percent
Haven’t found anything I wanted: 37 percent
Lost the card: 14 percent
Card expired: 12 percent
Nearly a billion dollars unredeemed. It is hard to imagine leaving a gift this size unclaimed.

Christmas is a reminder for us that God has given us an even greater gift. Yet many people have yet to receive Him. Like these gift cards, He has remained unclaimed. What is interesting to me is that the excuses given for not using the gift cards are almost the same for not receiving God’s perfect gift. For most, they say they just don’t have time. Others are still looking. Whatever the excuse, they have yet to take Christ Jesus into their lives. And until they do, they miss out on the greatest joy of life.
Have you received Him? Have you claimed the greatest gift? This Christmas would be a great time to do it.

“He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.” John 1:10-11 (NIV)

Prayer:
Holy Father,
Thank You for Your wonderful gift. Forgive us that we too often leave it unclaimed. Help us to open our hearts and our hands to receive you wondrous gift this Christmas.
In Jesus’ name, Amen

LOOK IN THE CLOSET

gifts in closet

“For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the power of our Lord Jesus Christ and his coming again. We have seen his majestic splendor with our own eyes.”
2 Peter 1:16 (NLT)

Little Johnny’s parents were puzzled when he announced that he no longer wanted the list of toys he had included on his Christmas gift list.

“Didn’t you write Santa Claus asking for them,” his mother asked.

Johnny answered, “Yes, but I looked in the closet the other day and I’ve already got them!”

Isn’t that wonderful news for Johnny? All the presents he wanted, he’s already got. What more could a child ask for?

You want to know even better news? Every thing you wanted for Christmas, you’ve already received as well. You’ve wanted peace, deep inner peace, from the nagging of the world? You’ve got it! You’ve wanted joy, a contentment with life? You’ve got that too. You’ve needed hope when facing discouraging setbacks. It’s here! They’re all found in Jesus Christ.
When God sent His son into our world, He was meeting every need that we would ever have. We do not have to wait for some future time for God to work in our lives. He’s here. He’s waiting. All we need to do is to look in the closet and see. He’s already yours.

Prayer:
Holy Father,
Thank You for the wonderful good news of Your Son. Thank You for giving us everything we needed on that first Christmas. May we have eyes to see His glory this Christmas.
In our blessed Savior’s name. Amen
